Pilates For Sports will strengthen your core, develop strong balanced muscles around the joints and enable you to develop a strong stable base. This core strength and stability is what you need to perform quick explosive movements such as short sprints, quick lunges to the side, quick approaches to jump and hit, and high vertical jumps to block.

Pilates For Sports will strengthen your core, develop strong balanced muscles around the joints and enable you to develop a strong stable base. This core strength and stability is what you need to perform quick explosive movements such as short sprints, quick lunges to the side, quick approaches to jump and hit, and high vertical jumps to block.

CORE STABILITY

To help you understand the benefits that a strong and stable core can provide volleyball players, picture a cannon on a canoe out in the middle of a lake. Now, if that cannon fires, it won’t be able to shoot very far because the canoe will wobble and capsize, as it can’t handle the force of the cannon. In this scenario the players arms and legs are the cannon and their wobbly core is the canoe on a lake, which can't handle the power being produced because of its instability. However, put that cannon on a concrete platform and the result is very different. From that stable base, maximum power can be directed to the cannonball, resulting in the cannon being able to fire to it’s full potential. Just as a volleyball player with a strong and stable core can transfer the maximum force generated to jump high, hit hard and change direction with maximum speed.

HIP MOBILITY

Poor hip mobility will limit a volleyball players ability to jump and lunge in order to get to passing balls. Tight hips can also lead to pain and injury. Pilates helps the volleyball player to improve their hip mobility. The result is an increased ability to be able to lunge and produce power from the legs, all with a decreased chance of injury.
