BE YOUR BEST
PILATES FOR SPORTS
FAST AND SMOOTH
Skiing is one of the most enjoyable and physically demanding sports in the world. It requires a sense of balance, core stability and muscle strength in order to be able to conquer the toughest of slopes, turn at will or perform aerial moves.
Pilates For Sports will enable you to develop the core strength and muscle balance required so that you can perform better on the slopes, challenge more extreme conditions and enjoy a pain free ski session. So why not take the Pilates For Sports challenge to "Be Your Best".
Changing durection can be one of the most exhausting aspects of skiing. If you turn inefficiently it means that you are using more energy than you need to move at that pace - not a great idea if you want to stay out in the snow for hours or win that race. Pilates for Sports teaches skiers to be aware of how they are currently turning and then helps skiers build a strong core to ensure that every bit of power they generate goes into their speed downhill. This comes about through the strengthening of the powerhouse, knowledge of how to engage it and improving the range of motion and stability of the shoulders. This controlled efficient movement will also reduce the chance of injury.
To help you understand the benefits that a strong and stable core can provide to skiers, picture a cannon on a canoe out in the middle of a lake. Now, if that cannon fires, it won’t be able to shoot very far because the canoe will wobble and capsize, as it can’t handle the force of the cannon. In this scenario the surfers arms and legs are the cannon and their wobbly core is the canoe on a lake, which can't handle the power being produced because of its instability. However, put that cannon on a concrete platform and the result is very different. From that stable base, maximum power can be directed to the cannonball, resulting in the cannon being able to fire to it’s full potential. Just as a skier with a strong and stable core can ski with power and move with maximum mobility in order to get the most out of every slope.
Balance is and important skill for anyone looking to improve their skiing. Balance is required so the skier can develop quicker reaction times and will also enable then to develop the ability to dynamically stabilize your joints. Pilates will develop the balance you need to take your skiing to the next level. As a someone once said: “You don’t need Pilates For Sports to ski, but you may ski better and with less pain if you do Pilates For Sports”
REDUCED PAIN & INJURY
If your muscles around a joint are unbalanced and your core is weak, it means that some muscles will have to overwork to produce a movement. Over time this can lead to pain and even injury. For skiers this can mean back, neck, shoulder or knee pain. Pilates For Sports will strengthen your core and help you to develop strong balanced muscles so that you can ski efficiently with good form and with decreased chance of pain and injury.
